12a is an anagram of those yeah, and the anagrams are not mixed together, which made it easier for me to guess & google.

14a - letters are correct, it' s a homophone of a 5 letter word.

PS - It's all "first-born" not just one so don't discount plurals.

Can't parse 7d. Admirers must be definition. But not all of the solution are necessarily admirers. Can't see what I'm missing.

7d parses as 4,1,2. Flatters as in nice fitting

One of the ones I didn't like. The first 4 letters are equivalent to "that flatters you", without the S. Then O and emptied Russians.

Would 23a clue be better as Brat wearing layette ... ?

Gave up and looked up answers . Never heard of 12a -tricky when you have have cepbl to fit in and they make equally possible names.
14a Thought it must be bias with bias sounding like some word I'd never heard of. I don't get how first born can be anything but singular.

23a I just added a full stop after brat to parse it. It doesn't really need the first in.

Happy Birthday this week to the mighty Rufus. Use of Himalayan justified in his efforts.

Tx Chrise an PDS. I had considered that. But could not rationalise the synonyms. However, my Concise Oxford Thesaurus has them. COT hasn't been off shelf for a very long while. Apps not foolproof, however, convenient.
