A lovely construction, and some great clues. Right up my street, as I collect the thematic items, and have all of the ones in the jumbles except for one (which is basically impossible to get hold of). I particularly liked the misprint in ‘Weapon that makes me…’, and the change for that one in the endgame. I’ve gone for lower case where appropriate - surely there’s no definitive rule that a grid must normally be filled with capitals only, so would feel pretty outrageous not to allow either?

Full grid, sorting out the message, so needing to double-check some of Aragon's - in places - rather wild and woolly parsing to ensure I've guessed the right misprints for the message from the song (which I haven't yet guessed); in particular,
1) 'Cheers on gunners... ': the 989 battle looks as though it should be 980? - something else happened peaceably in 989, but at Dublin, not ****. Or am I not getting the nuance?

2) Also, totally foxed by '1019 Uruguayan documentary pieces...' as a definition, although I know the entry, can see it clearly defined in the wordplay, and there is indeed a famous one in Montevideo...
Any discreet hints to better understanding will be appreciated.

Quixote, your first surmise is correct. In the second case, do a search for the answer + Uruguay + documentary and you should find what you're looking for.

At the risk of indiscretion, misprints can be in other items of the clue than just letters A - Z…

thanks, Loge and HW7; that possibility hadn't occurred to me - was beginning to think that Leif Erikson had gone much further than we supposed
- with a film crew an' all.

Came to this one late and it has proved to be an almighty slog. Nearly gave it up but managed to get to the stage I only had one clue to solve viz. "Normal department ......". I appear to have something wrong.I have 'EU?E' and the only word that fits is 'EUGE'. Also my corrected misprints make sense up to the word 'ONLY' then I have 'L02'. Any help appreciated.

The answer to the "Normal department ..." clue is the name of a foreign location and so it is not in Chambers. The misprint is in the first word.

For the character following ONLY, I suggest you re-examine the misprint (and its correction) in the penultimate clue.

I could be more specific but I don't think you'd thank me for that.
