Thank you Jack! With that nudge I realised I needed to be a little more literal when thinking about "horseshoe shapes".

Hi Givuzaklu,

Opinionated - 6 letter "register" minus its last letter/unfinished + 3 letter "letter" - definition is first 3 words with the misprint in the 3rd.

Author - 3 letter "author" as a verb + 4 letter "sound" - definition is last 2 words with misprint in the last.

Scribble - Anagram/scribble with the misprint in "item" forming part of the definition.

I have almost filled the grid. I am missing "Jovial European......................", for which I have BO??E. I can think of a great American hunter (rather than hunger) who would fit, but I cannot parse it. Also missing "What follows note.............................", for which I have ?ME. If my answer to the first one is correct, it would mean that I only have one blank cell in the grid, so I must have something wrong somewhere. A hint would be appreciated.

0pt0, look up the second meaning in Chambers of the first four letters of the American hunter. The other one is a 3-letter abbreviation, the title of what pop fans read. Neither of those answers are the ones entered with a blank cell.

Absolutely superb. I love a carte blanche, 3s and 4s got me in quickly after solving a dozen or so clues and then all fell nicely from there.

Great theme (favourite of my Dad's so grew up with it), excellent clues and absolutely brilliant construction. Very good indeed.

Many thanks Loge. I got fixated on Bowie as the great American hunter, but I have got him now. I have also found the other gap. Thanks again.
