I should have said you want a three letter word for hock.

dylan, I only had one of the 9-letter answers when I started grid-filling (the one that planks refers to). I just made a bit of an educated guess positioning some answers that had uncommon letters (which turned out to be correct, fortunately). Once you get going in the grid, you soon start to narrow down what is likely to go where and start to get cross-checking letters to help with clue-solving.

I've got the 9 letter Gloucester answer (assuming it's also a place in Virginia) but I haven't got Bradford's and I can't see any justification for the last 3 letters (T??) equating to "hock"?

Just so as I don't have to go back to square 1 with the clue placements, is there an answer that begins HB?

Thanks, planks, for your encouragement. Of course, I then soon got the Gloucestershire entry.

I also think I've got the 9 letter answer for Places for trying.... - but I can't justify the first two leets of my answer. The rest of the letters fit perfectly with the clue, and I think I can see a misprint possibility, in the 5th word. Tips please for the opening letters

Thanks

Correct with the misprint possibility. Potentially sometimes indicates an anagram?
