Am trying the puzzle every day and sharing my experience with my grandson.
Given the letters frequency of the language I'm using ARENT as the start )two most common vowels and three most common consonants).

Any other ideas?

I am trying the safe strategy of using 10 different letters in the first 2 guesses with 3 vowels in the first word and the other 2 in the 2nd if possible.

I go with the Scrabble best practice of using letters from RETAINS (best 7 letters to have on your rack in Scrabble) in the first word, so I am using RAISE for my first guess atm.

Not using 10 different letters means you are more likely to get it in 3 tries though whereas using 10 different letters in first 2 guesses means you are more likely to get it in 4 or 5 I think.

Since Wordle has been purchased by the NY Times it is "free, for now" and likely to disappear behind their games paywall sometime soon. An interesting alternative is at https://hellowordl.net/ . It allows you to choose a word length between 4 and 11 letters (so staying at Wordle's 5 is an option). Differences: 1) unlike Wordle's one game a day, there is unlimited game play (whether this is good or bad is debatable) 2) it does not keep statistics like Wordle does.

Hi William, we had a chat about Wordle in the Coffee and Cakes thread a little while back. I use ADIEU but also the ‘hard’ mode which rules out the strategy of using ten different letters in the first two words. Do let us know how you get on…

…and if ADIEU produces no results, STORY is a good follow up word

RATIO is probably a good choice for first word as well.

Unlike the contestants on Lingo (day time game show) who must be the thickest people I have seen on game shows for a while.

You'd have thought if you go on a game show offering money you'd at least make some attempt to understand how the game works :p

I agree with you partly about some Lingo contestants but they are limited to just ten seconds for each guess. There is also the added pressure of being under lights in a tv studio.
My starting word is audio as it has 4 vowels.
