But I'm even more confused. I thought I'd found the theme with 11d and 21d, but the answer to 20d doesn't fit the same theme. And I can't find a two word anagram of nomads.

Without giving it away can you help me understand what my answer for 21d might have to do with 20d

I've nothing in the south west corner yet.

I get 14 thematic answers. Tricky count: two are compound solutions.

Roof, the anag of nomads is a theme word that I only learned from crosswords. You could break it up as "parent" + "offspring".

Roof, 11 and 20 down do provide the theme. 21 is not thematic.

I know the word quite well, but fail to see the connection with 11d and 21d, but can see a theme with 20d. Am I going mad? How many themes are there?

SW corner. 27 & 29 are both thematic.
24 relies on what “naked” does to a word and the definition is free.
You can get 23 from the first three words.
