Andyp,
Re the title, I think Mint is a synonym of 'coin', and 'sauce' is an anagrind.
28d. Ar. is an abbreviation of 'Arab'.

Thanks, Mattrom. I often don't like the 'homophones', maybe I was trying to be more charitable than usual?

Re post #37 - I'm sure there are mitigating circumstances - but it looks as though a valued member of our group has been disproportionately offended by another - may I suggest that a simple apology would restore the even tenor of our conversations - which had become so much more tranquil in recent weeks - and rehabilitate everyone in harmony and mutual esteem?

Rapprochement...

Quixote, what pompous humbug. Tatters has been breaching the Timesā€™ copyright for a long while, and not everybody considers his ā€œserviceā€ valuable, or even acceptable. If you want access to the Listener before the paper is published, you are more than welcome to pay for a subscription. Lockdowns are a thing of the past now, so that justification no longer applies.

For the sake of 'harmony and mutual esteem' couldn't you tone it down a little, quisling?
I'm grateful to tatters for his contribution and I think the copyright issue is best left to The Times - if you're peeved because someone is getting free of charge something you're paying for then rest assured I've been paying a lot more to have my hard copy of The Times delivered throughout.

I have a Times subscription which gives access to a couple of thousand old Listener puzzles as well as the new one at 16.00 every Friday. I consider it good value even though I rarely use it for news.
That said I donā€™t see that sharing a link to the weekly puzzle is such a terrible crime. A quick look at any social media platform will reveal hundreds of examples of newspaper content being shared for the benefit of the wider community.
I donā€™t know what the situation is in law though.
