Brendan, we also found a slight error in one of the down thematics. A surplus letter. Incidentally, it also has an incorrect attribution which Quisling alluded to.

I have just checked my thematic answers against the clues and have found no errors. In normal clues order, of the ten, which number (1st, 2nd etc) is it? and I'll have another look

I too checked again and, as I first suspected, the error was indeed minešŸ˜”

Gitto, it was number 7 of the ten. Completed last night, dim light, couldnā€™t count, thought it was 1 missing letter. Turns out we missed the Knighthood. Doh.

Yes! The knighthood confused me at first because I couldn't get X=Y until I realised why (no pun intended).

All done (I think). Very clever. One query remaining though. I can't see how the latter part of 1d parses. Thanks in advance.

Hi Brendan, thanks. That's interesting, I'd interpreted this clue differently. Trying not to create a spoiler, I had the first word as meaning 'military' (OK, it should have an S on the end). I had the third word providing the extra letter, leaving a 4 letter scrambled word which, with the first 2 words, gave the definition of the answer. It seemed to work (in my head) but left me puzzled as to the wordplay. I've unscrambled my head now and can rest easy. Now onto the Guardian Prize.

Thanks Simon, I'm always tying myself up in knots with imaginary parses:-)

I've moved on to today's IQ and it is a beast!
