Thanks all - have the message and have taken drxx's answer for 44 as it provides the necessary extra letter. Had already located the 5a jumble, but the next two do not fill the 8 letter rectangle - a 6 and a 5 and no indication of what not to colour. Also 19 ac proving v troublesome. Is there a a author in there? My answer is an example of the first word in the clue.

Yes, aspria - for 19a the answer is an example of the first word (the penultimate word is removed from the anagram mix) and the final word has what you're looking for.

For your 6 think of the image you are creating. That should help decide what to leave uncoloured. Your 5 is not the full title, you need another 3.

And yes, the next item has some of the unshaded squares on top - but the one after this fills the space.
