BarryC - google the last five letters of the first word of 4d. 1a parses as (7, 7)

Thanks, Davel. Understand 4D now, but still stuck on 1A.

Hi Barry,

The turning point in question is to do with the seasons but it's not immediately obvious so don't beat yourself up about it:-)

First part is "people who do sums" and the rest is an anagram, split 7,7.

I enjoyed this. Surprisingly my LOI was 20 which, although I recognised both wordplay and definition on first read, had me needing all the crossers. I guess I don’t really associate the word with skilfulness, more a type cleverness. Nice to see my home town and workplace recognised in 5 too.

Really enjoyed this, and 6d is also my COD - very clever!

I can't parse the second word of 4d though.

Barry, re 1a; The first word, plus the first letter of the second word, is a sort of jokey word for people who do sums (it's more obvious than you'd think) and the rest of the second word is an anagram of 2 words in the clue. For definition, think seasonal.

4d parses as 1 then 1-5 (dresses) around an 8 letter word (key)

Thanks Jono, I didn't realise the parsing was so straightforward! I was looking for a more complex parsing of the second word.

I couldn't parse 4d either, so thanks for clearing that one up

Is 1d one word rather than two?

Good point Warden, Trip Advisor says it's one word but Wiki says it can be one word or two but other sites on Google like Brittanica and Dictionary.com seems to suggest it is two.
