Muraria, I'm glad that worked - I didn't have time to try it out myself, make sure the details were correct etc.

Jif73 - there's a word in the advice beginning with L. If you look at the first main definition in Chambers for it there are 6 sub definitions. Depending on whether you use the first or the 6th sub definition you'll end up with two different grids that are the opposite of each other.

It depends whether you see the grid as the scene or what you're taking with you as you depart the scene. But given noone else seems to see this as an issue I suspect i'm overthinking it.

I'm glad to have finished this one quite quickly. I've tremendous admiration fot those of you who carry on for a week or more wrestling with puzzles but I cannot feel enthusiasm for starting a puzzle if I can't reasonably see myself finishing it by the end of the weekend. So this is the first one I've tried since 4684 and it's in an envelop ready to go off. Its nature is that there are several details which I don't need to solve. Who cares that I haven't satisfactorily parsed 36A? Or whether the 3rd letter of the penultimate word in the message comes from 9d or 12d? I prefer a puzzle whose solution - though perhaps hard-reached - Is incontrivertibly the only one available. Which, I suppose, when I came to the endgame, this one is, even though one hasn't definitivly completed each stage in getting there.

As others have said, that was an enjoyable stroll rather than the serious hike of last week, Thanks again, Malone and Tatters of course!

Greetings from a former patrol leader (Falcons) of the Llanishen and Lisvane Scout Group. If I am on the right lines this is relevant.

I’ve finished the grid and found a most relevant quote but haven’t any idea what to do next.

Can anyone offer a gentle hint, or direct me ro the most relevant thread?

Ging gang gully!!

I've taken BP's (39) advice literally...

5, 7, 3, (4, 5)

with only 4,5 remaining in the grid
