As this week's Listener will be ignored by many of us, I thought I'd post a quick note of appreciation for today's Inquisitor. It was fun, it was tough in places, it was exactly what was needed.

Hi Malone. I knew you would have completed this. Please can you help with 38a. Bug before found in mixture of trip (6) the letter I have taken out is W…. I have ERETA?

Thanks, Jogamel. The 'bug' is a verb, and doesn't mean to annoy... You've missed out an important letter - the clue has 'tripe'. Your removed W is correct, your first E isn't!

Thank you, and yes I realised I had put trip instead of tripe. So my left column is correct. I think the right column has words with vowels missing, but I can’t find an author….

I agree, an excellent puzzle. I’d never heard of the source material, which sounds fascinating!

The letter taken out of 26a is causing me trouble as I want more to complete ….what am I getting wrong/missing?

What letter do you have for removal in 26, Jogamel?

Jogamel, the 'slabs' could be in your garden or driveway. There;'s a three letter 'hollow' and the usual Earth. It took me a few minutes to track down the word in Chambers.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question, I thought you had a letter to remove but weren’t happy with it?
