Sorry, as usual, as soon as I posted I got it!

Complete blank for ages then somehow rattled through it with lots of groaning - not particularly enjoyable but cannot put my finger on why. Clunky clues.

Agree with all , not satisfying .Can anyone help with parsing 19a

I think 19a is a word for sights (used a a verb) with an abbreviation for son substituted for an abbreviation for about.
I can’t parse 16a though, can someone help please?

Ah! I’ve got 19a now, worked out what ‘duke earlier’ meant. I always fail to spot that type of clue

Bucking the trend, I found this reasonably enjoyable but I can’t for the life of me parse 23ac. I have the first and third, as per earlier in this discussion, but all I can see is either a shortened word for a place of learning or a “one”, if that makes sense. But I can’t see how the parsing gets to either answer, apart from “France one” being an easy pointer to the first half.

Ignore my last post, I was totally over-thinking it. Hmm weird clue.

Also left with 23a, I have an answer that parses but with an extremely clunky and pretty weak definition.

I didn't find this too bad actually I agree 23a isn't great. Definition is almost the whole clue 'an abbreviated plural' that's unusual!.
