Thanks, whetstone - and I'm sure you worked out that my 'create a lot of intrigue' should really have been 'create a lot of interest', as in the clue!

Without is "EX", as in shares on stock market, trading "ex dividend", meaning "without dividend".
"OT" is books. Old Testament.
One is "I".
"CA" is an abbreviation of "circa", Latin for around/about.
EXOTICA.

23 Double definition, a kind of ant and a carpenter/joiner likes working with deal, a type of wood/timber.

16 A. V is a 'see', it's from the Latin (vide) inside A Dent, a depression. Advent, most of December.

20 Scar, cliff, with Timi(d), nervous/most of it= lose the last letter and 'about' = reverse, so Imit. Sc imit at., scimitar, cutter, sword.
