I can't believe I'm first to finish this!!!

I had to google the opera but apart from that it was pretty straightforward.

I liked 1A and all the required ingredients for an Everyman were present and correct.

I'm too shocked to give a full review!

I'm still parsing 27A.

I know someone will have probably Ninja posted while I was writing this ;)

I spotted 2 Halloween themed answers.

17 and 24 have featured recently in this or the Prize as well.

15 was my only stumbling block I had the wrong last letter. I didn't know 11 was an acceptable spelling either, but my Gran used to have one.

22 is too big to be a hole I think, although maybe it's to do with plumbing (which I attempted and failed to do properly on Friday, luckily my colleague had some silicon sealant to fix it properly).

Hi pdgs, and others.
27a is a 3 letter word for comic, then the gutted trembling - gives two letters, followed by the favourite genius without his second letter.
The usual loose clueing too which didn’t help here and there.

I made the same mistake with 15a and thought the first word in 8d was “charge” - took me a bit to unravel and I like the stuff!

I got 1 and 10 only from crossers. Figured out 1 (fairly common crossword device), but it may not be an easy clue for those outside UK. Still don't understand 10.
Other than that, the puzzle was kind of "meh", especially for a Halloween edition.

Oh yes, the misdirection in 22d is the first word, which is also the definition. It has come up quite a lot round the grids lately.

Cheers for the 27 parse... too lazy to work it out after a few beers ;)

Maybe this was another Dave Gorman set puzzle since 6D was basically a carbon copy of the same clue from 3D on Friday mixed up a bit but slightly less witty. It's in the same area as well!

Hi geeker,
10a is a brand name meaning to win. British.

Thanks, but I misposted. 11 is what stumps me. 10 was actually easy...😳
