Hi Suzannah,

33a - The last word is the definition. Single letter "second" + 2 letter "example" + 4 letter "duplicated" minus the "date".

PS - I'm sure you already know but it's one of the thematics so the definition is only part of the word.

Suzannah, the wordplay is S(econd) + Ex + word meaning duplicated or double minus D. The middle two letters of this are thematic, when removed you get a word for stamp.

Thanks Loge and Brendan. I had this one ALL wrong! I was thinking a second example could be a sequel, which would have made the middle two letters qu, which is short for quarter. And of course I'm far too sweet and innocent to have seen the real word rather than my wrong one!

I'm doing pretty well on this apart from NE section where a nudge on 8d and 9d would be great. I believe they are straight clues.

8d - Definition id "dud" Ed reversed/from base + usual 2 letter "notice" + 4 letter "bob" as a verb

9d - 5 letter "excursion" around E Ireland reversed/heading North - definition is "in a line"

Thanks Lumen. In 9 the "excursion" could be military assault or a sortie.
