Sorry, forgot ..

16a - This whole clue is parsed in reverse/"sent back" - 3 letter "long time" + 2 letter "sides of wait" + 4 letter "cleared off" - definition is "dishes".

Gosh, you're right, he is there in the clue for 5D! How did I miss that? Thanks, Brendan.

Phil, for 5d look at the "regular" letters in "anger round a" - the poet is quite an obscure one, at least I'd never heard of him.

I was the other way round. I'm familiar with his work and initially thought, 'It MUST be him', but couldn't work out why. Then I convinced myself it must be someone else as 'ire' had to be in the answer! 🤦‍♂️
ps Thanks for your help too, Acton.

Hi all. Quite enjoyed this one. Thanks for help with 16a, Brendan. Still can't work out 22 & 24, though I reckon 24 will be funny

Noticed this was the ‘alliteration grid’ again before starting which helped a lot. 1a being (6,7) is a bit of a give away. We’ve previously had county council, get the giggles, secret service, and most recently pyjama parties in the 1a slot and those puzzles all use this grid. Of course it only works when 1a is (6,7) so that the start of the second word is the start of 4d, which is neat.

Thanks, Phil, but isn't the apostrophe s redundant in 24?
And I just had the PDM with 22, though I didn't know they'd got together, not being a HP aficianado.
Thanks all.
Stay safe

Good day all. Struggled for ages and did not see 'grocer' at 11a until I'd spent an hour getting frustrated. Many PDMs. COD 23a. One of my favourite books is 'Everything is obvious once you know the answer' which sums it up for me. 15a the worst 'primarily' ever. Enjoyed 22d. Like the illiterates.
