Help/Hints for the unclued please...
seems to be only 1 choice for 13d unless extra letters are involved?

They all include numerals (bar the maths term in 28ac).

.......or possibly same number in the 2 downs and a different one in 23a.....think i see it now...

The thematically adjusted entries are alike and the other two are alike.

Hi turast, look at drxx's post #2 in conjunction with the puzzle number and title.

If it is MATHS I still do not have a clue. Please at least throw me some synonyms for the 5 unclued areas.

I assume Col 5 Row 7 is a capital I / or 1.

Beyond that, I'm fully in the dark.

23 across - TV programme based on George Orwell creation
28 across - Maths term
5 down - Landmark occasion
13 down - BBC sorts station
27 down -Version of football

Just had another look. Putting the symbol for times rather than a number at the end of 13 down would make the middle part of the grid + 28 across read much more like a sum which would produce the required result. Away now for a very long weekend and won't look at any crosswords until Wednesday, not even if I get withdrawal symptoms.
