Most definitely "squared" !

You have 'x' as your last letter in 13 down, ginge? Does the title itself not give the suggestion for the multiplication? For me, to clarify, all four unclueds have a number, which when multiplied give the crossword number.

I've just caught up on the maths debate - and the very fact that mathematicians are debating this puzzle tells me I'm out of my depth. I'm leaving you to it.

Hi again todorovia, yes I have X at the end of 13d to give the expression in full. It seems pretty pointless multiplying a number using 1 (the multiplicative Identity) and the down number 1s only appear in crossing cells with the only numbers appearing in the grid being 101 & 5 which obviously has to be squared to give 2525.
I don't submit puzzles so it doesn't really affect me and I was only trying to give guidance.

I give up! Obscurity prevails where there ought to be clarity.

Fair enough ginge, but I don't think CheeseCracker thinks that multiplying by 1 is pointless. Just my opinion which others can take or leave. 5 x 5 x 101 x 1. All primes and multiplied together in accordance with the title.

One last point todorovia, 1 is not a prime number.

I'm fully on board with the arithmetic given by alwayspuzzled at #10, further clarified by ginge at #15. So that's 23 & 28 across and 13 & 27 down sorted. But no one has mentioned 5 down. I have _ILE_TI which suggests absolutely nothing to me. Any suggestions?
