Hi Chrisxxxx, Yes, a good puzzle with some easy anagrams to get a toehold, and a few that the solver would have to think about.
There may be a typo in 4d - should be "captured" ?

Thanks to Everyman, enjoyable but I was somewhat jaded after yesterday's epic Prize. Apparently one of the long anagrams has a Grauniad, an incorrect letter in anagrist. Didn't notice because I wrote in the solution once it became obvious. No rhyming pair detected, but the setter has opted for alliteration.

Yes. It doesn’t fit otherwise. I didn’t notice it, since the answer from the anagram seems obvious.

Well spotted Mattrom, I missed that too. There were a few I wrote in without stopping to parse and I still can’t see how 6d works in fact, but I’m sure it will click as soon as I post this.

I did notice that Everyman’s used this grid several times before for ‘alliteration-themed’ puzzles. C county council etc, G get the giggles etc, S secret service etc - all use this grid. And of course it only works when 1a is (6,7) so that the start of the second word is the start of 4d, as is the case in all of the above and today’s. Clever.

Good day to all. Took two bites at this after not seeing a couple of the anagrams. CoD for me is 17d. Not sure why. FoI 9a. LoI 24a. Not sure about some of the parsing. Quite liked 5d. But did not spot any real gem. Have a good day.

Agree about 6D. Surely one of the most ludicrously overcomplicated clues ever. I have finally parsed it ... but it's still terrible - FOUR single-letter abbreviations and one shortened word written backwards! I'm no nearer to parsing 8A though. (Can't think of an appropriate term for bootlegging that's even close to short enough prior to paring it down.) Can anyone help?

Unusually for me I finished before visiting the forum. Great fun though and I'll go for 13d as COD - delicious.
