I have the answer, and the entry, for 5d, but I don’t understand the wordplay.
Also for 28d, I think I get it, but not sure about the parrot.

All finished. Lovely puzzle which, as others have said, appeared daunting to start with but which was well-constructed and amusing when one saw the 'thematic derivation'.

Just one query though - in 18d, I can't see the wordplay for ENT. I'm sure it'll be a 'doh!' moment but thanks in advance.

Dylan, 5 down is a double definition - the tail end of a batting team and it's also a legal term (definition 2 in Chambers)

The parrot is KEA, repeated without the E (for earth)
