Hi all. I'm almost finished this one - finding 5d tricky as are others, but also stuck on how you parse 10d? I have the answer from the definition, first and third words but don't understand the second - am I missing something basic? (I'm still quite new to this, apologies!)

The "two letters" you're looking for are only in Across clues, and it means the last letter of the first part and first letter of the latter part. If its definition then jumble you're looking for last letter of the def then first letter of the jumble. :)

For 22D we had to do a bit of searching around chambers but the parsing itself is quite straightforward... remember you already know what the third letter of the word is - using the other checked letters you have you might be able to parse the third word in the clue?

Scar, if you look up the second half of the answer to 10 down in Chambers, you'll find your explanation.

To my delight I finished this none without any recourse to the thread(s). It was just about right for me. However... (as ever)..,

I cannot parse the second half of 12 across nor 6 down - can anyone help?

Maybe your queries should go on the other thread, the Answers one? If the parsing is good and clear, it might reveal the answers!

PS Other people might manage to be subtle in their parsings, I'm not very good.

Williamseal - parsing of 6 also eluded me til someone lower on the thread pointed out it involves hexadecimal.

Difficult to give too much of a hint to 12a without giving it away.

Overall thought this was fairly underwhelming. Anyone spotted why downs had to be jumbled - can't see any thematic reason?

Smellyharry, I was a bit like you - thinking that too much could be revealed here, so I suggested that Williamseal posted his query on the other (ANSWERS) thread. He did, and I think his queries were resolved.
