Jif73, no need to go over to the dark side - just look in Chambers for 5 Down.

Advice please. Is it worth it slogging through figuring out which letters to use for the writers? I've already managed to find the "link" in the grid. I may have been a little lucky, but it didn't seem too hard to find with the restriction of one letter per row.

Mathprofrockstar, I'd say 'No'.

MPRS, as a completist I'd say yes - sorry Malone, I never normally disagree with you:) - and if you've got the link all you need is to Google it and you'll find the two writers. You can then trace them through the letter pairs.

Loge, it was the 'slogging through' to get the letters that I felt wasn't necessary - and that's what Mathprofrockstar asked. Getting the stuff from Google would cut out the slog, the effort involved - tracing them through the letter pairs isn't quite so 'completist' if the names have been given to you, surely?

True Malone, but I did use the letter pairs and it wasn't a slog - the first writer stood out as did the Christian name of the second (although I didn't know of him). Perhaps "completist" was the wrong word but I'm a nerd, so I like to tie up loose ends - with the one exception that I don't usually bother to check the "letters in unchecked squares could be arranged to read blah blah."

Thanks, Loge. I think Mathprof knew there wasn't anything specific to be gained from doing the letter pairs - other than a sense of completeness! I think we all have different approaches to nerdiness, loose ends and so on, so I'm quite happy to live and let live really.
