Once I’d actually worked out what the preamble meant, this was quite a fun romp.

Feels like another crossword I did recently that felt more like a word puzzle than actually a crossword but still very enjoyable.

Agree entirely, CD. The preamble took me several attempts to understand it, and I’m not keen on definition/letter mix clues or jumbles. But in this context it all worked out well and was great fun. I particularly liked the final reveal given by the link.

Can anyone explain the parsing of 6d?

Are the authors fairly well-known? I've taken the two letters needed to identify them from the last letter of the definition for each clue (24 of them) and the first of the jumble (if I've understood the preamble correctly) but they don't produce anything much however you try to separate them...

Hi aspria, the first 8s very well known, the second new to me. Remember it may also be the last letter of the jumble and first letter of the definition depending on the order they appear.

Not that well known to me aspria.

I found it easier to find the second one first, in part because I had an error with my third pair which made finding the first name pretty difficult!

Felipedon - can get the last four letters but struggling with the first, unless Hexadecimal is involved!

The first author is, I think, likely to be a name most will know. I'd never heard of the second, Not really my genre.
