12 is tricky. Defn. "that's not right". Parses as "solver" (3) and "of France" (2,1) around a 5-letter anagram.

solver (3) + anag of 2 other words in clue + single letter abbreviation

Solver + anagram of weary + of + usual for France.

Been at my brother's 60th birthday this weekend so have been dipping in and out of this and yesterday's Guardian prize. Pleased this was straightforward. FOI 1a. COD 12a.

One question. 2d. Is that really the meaning for the second part or did I get it wrong? Apologies if asked already.

Yes, I think it's a mild expletive like 'darn' or 'drat'.

That's what I concluded about 2, after a really long think. It was my LOI, IMO somewhat less than an inspired clue.

But IIRC 2 didn't appear in the recent (difficult) "Minced Oath" Prize (Paul, 28,452). 🙂
