I thought this one was not difficult, but I needed that after some of the slogs I’ve had lately. FOI was 1a - seemed an obvious anagram. LOI was 11d because indeed I was not familiar with the comedian, although once I had all the crosses, I could see the entry. Like geeker, I was not familiar with that usage of 17a; over here it would be used as in a fuss or row. And I learned a new British expression in 3D. I’ll file it away with β€œBob’s your uncle.” 😏

A fun puzzle. First run though left me blank apart from a pathetic FOI at 10a. Did not spot some anagrams (1a sad but true). Desperate for some helpful down clues, 3d saved me, and that led on to the rhyming pair, which then helped the ending of 20a. Then rattled through the rest. LOI 14d. A couple of contenders for COD for me are 17a and 26a. I'll opt for 17a. Enjoyed the posts as always. Have a good day all.

I was late to this today, as lacking some 9a. Maybe it’s the heat, I might need to spend the day in my 19a. And I resent the implication that 8ds are only for children as I’m rather partial to one myself ;-) My 24’s were 15a, 19a, 21d and 17a.
Nothing but admiration for all the non-UK solvers who completed this! Everyman back on good form.
Cheers

I really enjoyed this and unusually agree with the comments! COD(s), 17a (also LOI) and 26a. Thanks for parsing 14d for me.
A really clever and satisfying puzzle today 😊

14,15 my last 2 as well. 15 took the longer. Struggling to parse 12. Could the letter count of 1st word in solution have been more accurate? Or, do the quotation marks indicate homophone?

Hi fop,
12a parsing breaks down as 3, 5(anagram), 2, 1. The quotes marks have no meaning. The first word indicated as (5) is really (3’2)

Tx Jono. Getting to solution was straight forward my quibble is really why was the count not 3'2,3,3. Apologies if this verging towards a spoiler
