Thanks tinlizzie..obvious when it is pointed out but was looking for a name and got hung up on a fig!
8 I have an answer with the second part when you try and persuade with treats but I am baffled by the connection with shots.

tinlizzie - good morning! Sorry if my previous clues haven't helped you get 8 yet!! it's really difficult giving a clue without writing the word, but I'll try for you!
How about thinking of a film "The Last T********* Of Christ" and use the first syllable of the missing word!
Or..'the footballer had 2 a******* at scoring a goal'

50. Fruit beginning with A. Vessels can be all sorts, not just ships/boats but containers of all kinds.

8. Instead of 'shots' think of the word as 'tries'. You can have as many..........as you like to get the right answer.

you are not a dimwit, everyone has probably struggled over other answers that you might have got straight away..it's just proof of the way different peoples brains work!

Have trawled through all the posts here but can't find one related to no. 98. I'm obviously being very stupid, but I can't see it. Any hints, please? Is this the Isle of Wight yarmouth or something else altogether?

98.You'll kick yourself when you get it. It's an anagram of learned with the first letter of the place you mentioned in the Isle of Wight (lovely place) The answer is an island not far from England (another lovely place)
