Yes Phil10000 I checked the hardback COD. Tho I struggled a bit. The double finger gesture to enlarge does not work on paper. Long delayed visit to my optician is now a priority.

Hi Brendan, I’m sorry to sound thick in my first post, but what is a “Pauline” clue? I lazily assumed that it was a clue in the manner of Paul the crossword setter, but when I read you discussing a Pauline clue in a Paul crossword it rather blew that theory out of the water. Sorry if I’ve posted this in the wrong place. Thanks.

Hi Klunk, welcome! And yes ‘Pauline’ does refer to the setter Paul and his propensity for slightly ‘naughty’ references in his clues

It’s another phrase for “rumour.” Think Roman for 51

I think John Prescott once referred to it when describing the evidence of WMD in Iraq.

Hard to be clearer without spoilering!
