Sorry guys, I'm obviously missing something. What does "Think person and pick one of the two spellings" mean in regard 18d?

Brendan, I think "(eccentric) person" or oddball/weirdo. I originally thought of a word ending in "nt" rather than "te"; maybe those are the "2 spellings".

Hi Brendan

The answer as a noun describes a person who is a crank, the more common version ends in NT

Good day all. Several PDMs today. Given the incident in the Euros my COD is 13d because Christian is one. And I am sure we all wish him well. Agree with the comments on Everyman quality today. Some great clues.

Actually 1a is simply seeing Amsterdam as a four-letter word which is first word of answer and the rest of the clue is part of definition.

Surely 18d is the verb as in 'winding course'?
