Re reservations about 15D - 'stomach of an animal' is given as a definition in many dictionaries.

Femmenoire - you may be thinking of permit as a verb rather than a noun as I did for a while

Enjoyed this one, and only got 22 after much help from here and a lot of thinking, but a very fair clue I thought

FOI 1, LOI 22. COD 13

I guess I am one of the newbies here. I only have time for the Saturday Guardian crossword every week - the old fashioned paper version. This forum has added an extra layer of enjoyment for me

Thank you Mathi and Davel
22d and 23a are probably the two finest clues in this great Prize puzzle. Definitely worth the struggle which makes it all the sweeter when you get there (the joy of the PDM!).

You are right Lunaticfringe, I was focusing on the verb instead of noun there.

Have a great weekend everyone

Yes, once you see it (with help from the forum) 23d is a great clue. I thought I must have it right, but couldn' t figure out why until a poster here pointed out that the definition is in the first TWO words in the clue.

Finished now so off to the garden. Thanks again for making the crossword even more enjoyable.

I didn't have an issue with the usage of "stomach" in 25, the clue just felt stale because it had appeared in another setter's puzzle only a few days ago.

By the way (no doubt very late to UK readers), Rodriguez aka Picaroon, a frequent Prize setter, is in the Indy today.

Just registered because of 5a and 6d. Then I got them. No-one else seemed to trip up there, so I assumed it was a problem with my run up and adjusted accordingly. Help by omission. Cheers.

Bit late to this one because I've been attempting to assemble an IKEA bed. Took a pause for the cause and decided to finish it tomorrow (the bed). Rattled off the top half then struggled with the south east corner now it's the southwest that's completely left me struggling. I think Crucible is a good compiler because the clues are actually easier than you think when you get them. They're just well constructed and hidden.

Despite many useful hints on here 23 and 22 are the ones I'm just not getting.

Is the definition of 27 right or have I got the wrong answer?

I'll get it beaten but I may have to nurse this glass of rosé a while longer.

Hi Rocky,

27a - Chambers gives the definition of the answer as "to perch, settle" and "to land" so "settled is fine, I'd say.

23a - It's the type of "permit" one might need for foreign travel then, if you spit the answer 4, 4 you get what "posh diners do after meal"

22d - the "order student" should be looked at from a religious sense then read as 2, 4 for the "what she claims to possess"

Hope that helps:-)

PS I remember I had a self-assemble IKEA wardrobe once but I lifted it up before putting the back on - what an almighty noise it made when it it immediately came crashing down:-)
