Femmenoire, Nicos. I read set as an IT term to "set a time". EG for an operation to take place on an APP on multiple platforms. EG Email on Desktop, Smartphone, Tablet etc.

I'm stuck in the SW too. I have an answer for 13d that parses perfectly, except that the definition seems to be wrong. This is possibly why I can't get 23a and 25a.

ChrisE I think l 13d is a rather tenuous definition for apology - kind of holds up if you say “a poor apology for”

I suppose so, FemmeNoire. It fits with the other ones now. It's very loose, though - an extra step to get from the answer to the definition (as in your "a poor apology for").

Chambers gives the def. of the answer as "A ridiculously inadequate representation (of something)" and for apology as "A poor specimen hardly worthy of its name" so it seems OK to me.

22D Ahh, you're right Femmenoire -- it must be that. Thanks -- the parsing has been driving me mad all day. Something of a return to those dodgy synonyms that Everyman used to favour back in pre-covid days!

I enjoyed this too and sailed through it, rather to my surprise as I was late to bed watching the golf last night. Grateful for the forum's parsing of 6AC. FOI 1a which is a lovely anagram. LOI 9a because it was hard to see which letters formed the anagram. COD 15a which I thought nicely constructed.

No Brendan last week either. Hope you are OK, we all appreciate your contributions each week and your readiness to help.

Aah such a relief after yesterdays prize, first time Ive done “nearly” all of it without googling. Didn’t know the repetitive learning word in 16a or the geezer who got to 969...Oh and did have a look in the South Pacific on Maps....who wouldn’t !

Only just got round this but there's lots to like. Favourites were the lovely anagrams at 1a and 17a.
