Glad you enjoyed it, Splinters, and I hope others do too (kudos to Tatters for making it available). It's proof, if it were ever needed, that a puzzle doesn't have to be fiendishly difficult to be beautifully constructed and great fun.

I've completed the grid and endgame but would like to know how 26d is parsed.

26d is a double definition

Thanks Buddy, I was overthinking it. The second definition is new to me.

The question comes up again as to what is intended by the word ‘highlighted’. Should the ten cells be filled in, or would an appropriate curve be better? If the latter, wouldn’t it have been a good idea to ask for a curve? This is the word often used in preambles, and it would not have violated the setter’s self-imposed restriction!

rad - as it asks for highlighting, suggest you just shade / fill in the cells
