If I understand the preamble correctly, once the effect of the item is reflected on the other 16 cells, what's left should be real words or "always leaving valid entries". My problem is 30a where I've erased one of the intersecting names but it doesn't seem to leave a real word - Where have I gone wrong?

Cancel that, I've just seen the third name.

Well I seem to have completed this whilst only spotting 7 misprints lol. How many should there be? I have no idea what the epithet might be.

Pretty sure I have the whole thing, but struggling to justify a couple of answers, which I know must be right. At 8Ac I've got a curtailed footballer called Ryan, but I can't locate it as a word defined in Chambers. Any suggestions?

PS - I also couldn't find a relationship between "Sam" and 1a but I'm sure there must be one?
