Hello, first post, after reading for some time, because the parsing of 54a is completely frustrating me. Can someone break that down for me, please?

nvm, think I have it now. Didn't know the plural of opus, didn't see II as eleven.

Hi always lurking, glad you've come into the open to join the fun!
I believe it's a five-letter term for (a composer's) works, followed by a theme word contained in a symbolic representation of a (football or cricket) team within a two-letter word for thanks. The close relation between the first five letters and the whole is a bit clunky IMHO

Have enjoyed this puzzle and appreciate the effort that Maskarade has put into providing many people with this huge offering. Solving 15 Across first of all, provided me with much of the theme work, but I am
left with one query. That applies to 17 Across, which someone earlier hinted at as having two possible answers, but I have only heard of one of them, and have entered this. Can't quite parse this tiddler though, so was just wondering whether "active" (as in the clue) could be abbreviated to "A", or does "active" have some other connotation?

A=active is in Chambers.

Thanks, Buddy - had a look but couldn't see it, but it's obviously there somewhere.

Would agree that Araucaria was top of the tree(!), when it came to compilers, but Maskarade has come up with some very good puzzles. I'm always reminded of Araucaria when I drive around locally, as I see his like in several gardens that I pass - just glad that I've never tried to climb one of them!
