cockie ...i think the replacement at 13d goes with the defn in 25a??

I agree, kirky, but - perhaps surprisingly - the word on 25A does not, according to BRB, mean one of what the new 13D is. (A sentence wholly bereft of meaning unless the reader is stuck where I am. I'm sure it's right, but the niggle remains.)

I have the name from the extra letters in the down clues but cannot find any quote from that person in my ODQ fifth edition. That is preventing any progress with the transmutations. Just about to see if I can find it elsewhere.

If it's G(allon) and URN (Vessel) where does the ED at the end come from?

Brendan just the past tense of Urn, put inside vessel, like bottle/bottled and so on. I haven't checked, by the way - it just seems logical!

Thanks for that Nick. Despite your help I can't see the quote in the Wiki article. In all probability I have the wrong person so I will come back to this tomorrow.
