I agree, but can someone help with the parsing of BARRAT - by which I mean just the 'second nature' bit.

I found that really hard work. Another example of Inquisitor out-toughing the Listener. I wonder what the EV holds in store? I'm about to find out!

I think the def is 'old [word for] second nature to ch[e]at'. Chambers gives 'barrat' as an obsolete word for 'deceit' - which I suppose would be 'second nature' to a cheat!
