Thanks, all.

Finished it but couldn't parse 25 or 9. Now that I understand them, they're joint CODs!

25 was all the harder for 13D having three poss solutions (ending ~ion, ~ive & ~ing)

Thank you, Everyman for another good'n.

I enjoyed this, but struggled with some of the parsing.
Thanks for the explanation of 9a, as even after I’d substituted one letter for another in the answer, I’d failed to see how temperature scales were involved.
Does 10a have two anagram indicators - startled and modified - or am I missing something?

Adnarim,
In 10a there is one indicator for the anagram and another to indicate that the subtracted letters are also not in the same order that they are in the clue (hope that makes sense)

@minty and @phil10000 Yes, the down under Perth was indeed in my mind...
Thanks for reminding me of an alternative :-)

10a was also my last one in. I thought it was a clumsy clue as I prefer good surfaces.
However, I loved the two alliterative clues although I was held up as I was expecting them to rhyme.

I whipped through this fairly quickly until... Must have been the walk in the snow that cleared my head. Grateful for the explanations of 10a and 25a but need a hint please for 14a which I saw gave one of our members at least pause for thought.

I've been looking in every so often in the hope someone else had trouble with 13d.
Agree with Phil10000 about distance in 2d and Tx for reference to Perth. In saying that I am only 52 miles from Perth and never twigged. Cue DOH headslap. PDM doesn't quite cut it.

14a: definition is vain. It is a four letter word that sounds like a movie star or celebrity.

Will4jan, 14a is a homophone of what a movie star might perhaps be to some. That word has cropped a few times, usually with an oblique reference to a certain snake.

Re the girl from Perth, I’m sure I’m not alone in immediately thinking must be Sheila
