Hi Barry, “and literally”, meaning the whole clue doubles up as a literal definition (or that’s the idea)

Good afternoon. SE corner as you all say. Got all but 24a, 21d and 22d. I take what you're saying about Eastenders and moustaches but I haven't a clue. For 24 a I have ?i?e ?r????

That should help with the down clues if I can get that.
Thanks.

Can I help catcharmer. 24a. Take your name. Are you cat charmer or catch armer. So answer is 4-6 but can be found by a 5, 5. First 5 letter word is also stacked, second is to do with the wet stuff. Hope you follow my flow of thought!

As usual, late to this. Thanks yevrah for explanation about 24a - obvious once you see it! Whizzed through until SE corner like everyone else. Still took me ages to get 22d despite all the help here - I was obsessing about moustaches rather than more generally about the face and head!

Thanks Yevrah. It still eludes me. I have an idea based on your helpful clue, but no crossers appear. Aaagh!

24ac is a piece of machinery used in the construction industry. Not always required, mind - will be pretty alarmed if they need one for the forthcoming garden office... !

I also sailed through till I got to the SE corner. Thanks, Jono, for explaining &Lit, those clues are very clever. Re 22d, the answer came up in the second list of synonyms for topic on Google. Re 24a, if still stuck, think flowing water. Didn't see anyone help with 17a - the answer has a double meaning: it might be more accurate to say they were used by chemists.

Try this. First word rhymes with a major river in Africa. Second word is in the title of a de Niro movie from some time ago.

The SE corner slowed me down too.
I was lucky enough to have a PDM for 24a which was a great help.
For this reason, and because I like that sort of split clue, it has to be my COD.
