The 'cry of joy' - which is the definition of the short word - is a shortened ersion of HOORAH.

29a - I have a word meaning "cavities in bodies" where the last four letters are an anagram of "rate" but can't see why the first two letters are "ears"?

Brendan, there is something to be removed from this clue before solving.

It's one of the four. Ears is part of what goes.

Thanks Nelson. Sorted. I was missing the significance of 'accepted' which appears to be doing double duty?

Thanks Xwordfan. Spanish isn't my strong suit and I was wondering about Portuguese (or even Basque) for a while. I'll keep going!
