13ac is in the row numbered 12, so not odd-numbered? I assumed rows 1,15, 21, 29 etc.

Odd-numbered rows just means every other row. First, third etc. Nothing to do with clue numbers

I was not sure at first about 'odd-numbered rows'.

36a I have a two word answer (3,4) from "alteration" minus T and TO that is a "route" (for planes) but the last two letters would be NE but I've got RA there and there's no mention of clashes - where have i gone wrong?

36 across has a letter count of (6,1), Brendan. It's a thematic clue and the definition of route is a shorter word (4 letters).

Okay, thanks Loge - I thought it might be "air lane" but it clashed with the letters I have.

I have a full grid and can make a reasonable guess at the unclued. I don't recognise the language and wonder whether it's worth plugging away at the end game without the ODQ?

The one clue I can't satisfactorily parse is 43a. Clearly it isn't one of the four clues. I have the Hebrew god but 'cry of joy before bishop'?
