This proved to one of my easier grid fills. I did however confuse myself when I became convinced that one of the perimeter characters was Ned from the series I binge- watched in the first lockdown. I then proceeded to look for the mother of dragons.

I never enjoyed this particular book so would appreciated a further hint for the activities. Are they very specific to this story?

Many thanks

Ok, I'll keep at it for a bit. The ones I have left are 3d, 4d, 7d, 10a, 15a, 18a and 32a. May well be that I have some of the others wrong, so incorrect crossers could be throwing me off. I think I might have a 5th character (across the top from 2) but that only leaves me 4 squares for the 6th. Is that right?

Williamseal, Yes, the activities are specific to the book. As Candledave said, they all end in the same suffix. None of them are words I'd heard previously, so if you spot a likely suffix, Google the letters before it.

Hi Abicoop,

4d - Single letter for "Australia" + single letter for "ruins" after the extra letter has been removed + 2 letters for "say" as in 'example' - definition is "shifting dunes"

10a - straight anagram/"suffering" after an S has been removed - definition is "Glaswegian squawks".

Abicoop, Yes to one of the characters starting at 2a. Did you allow that one of them is a clued entry, so there are 5 in the periphery?

Your letters are correct but they're for the surname - the name is split 4, 10 and it's the one following the name beginning at 2a.

Yes, that's what I meant. Think I have the name now after a rummage through Chambers, alternative spellings and how to pluralise them!
