This made me laugh out loud. The effect of the theme was very easy to ascertain, and the gridfill too straightforward, but the final step a proper head-scratcher. This will definitely be a Marmite puzzle. I would just urge people not to give it away on this thread

Fair enough Quisling. I’ve scratched my head enough to make my bald scalp bleed, but if the revelation is as good as you say I’m happy to persevere and forgo any giveaways - for now at least.

Well after an hour of staring I found a letter to change but as it didn't raise even a slight smirk [let alone a LOL], it is probably not the right one. Thought I hit gold with an anagram of the title but it was the iron pyrites type.

(Pedant warning) As I understand it the numericals usually come on the penultimate Saturday of months 2, 5, 8 and 11. So the gap won’t always be 13 weeks. But I think the next deviation from your pattern will not come until May 2024.

Yes, Tatters, I tried an few anagrams of the title too but still nothing has come to mind. I'm inclined to think that this is a GWIT from Gwyneth Gwitty of Gwitterton, Gwent.

Just for the record, the only reason I don't show appreciation for your uploads is that as an expat, I signed up for the Times site some while ago and therefore don't need them. But it's kind of you to provide the puzzles for those who are unable to get them in these dire circumstances, and I certainly have no truck with the opinion of the sanctimonious twerp who had a go last week!

After a very quick fill I've got absolutely nowhere with the endgame.
I'd like to try the marmite and see whether I like it or not, so if you'd offer a little help with prising off the lid, quisling, it would be appreciated.

Sorry I've offended you, Quisling. I did feel that the attack on Tatters and those who show him/her gratitude was rather high-minded, but I should have realised that not everyone felt the same way.
