Eugen, for 27 D the first two letters of the answer are the West Coast city, the rest is 'the central part'. The first 7 words of the clue are the definition (with a changed letter in word 4).

Is there any significance in “colour”? Presumably highlighting in any colour is OK.

I don’t think so Unclued, but if I sent these things in I’d probably go for green, in accordance with the emotion prevalent in the work in question. Green eyed monster and all that.

Loge, I agree with you about 6d. It made me laugh too, especially as it was the first answer I got. Didn’t we have bollix a few weeks ago, only that was an answer not a clue. I’m not too sure about your choice of colour though. Wasn’t the item in question white with red strawberries on it, signifying the blood of a virgin? Maybe we can use two colours.

On the subject of “colour” I can’t figure the parsing of 1a. Hint?

Hi MPRS,

1a - 6 letter word for "difficulty" around an anagram of two words in the clue (one of them has to be made "coreless")

Good point, xij. I'd forgotten (or more likely, didn't know) about the strawberries. I still don't think any particular colour is intended, though.

I wish setters would use "shade" or "highlight" (is there a difference? I don't know) rather than colour, unless there is an obvious relevance to the colouring as in, for example, a national flag. Still, that didn't spoil a hugely enjoyable puzzle. This has been a good year for Listeners, if nothing else!
