Thanks, Loge and Unclued, for your helpful advice. Unfortunately I still don’t see exactly what I should do which I hadn’t tried already. I always go via the Times website, but on the house computer I don’t get the usual invitation to log in. On the iPad it now invites me to subscribe, but there is a little button in the top left corner labelled Login. But when I press that it just keeps returning to the same page! Very frustrating!

Hmmm, that's a tricky one. No doubt you've already done all of this, but have you cleared all Times cookies and tried approaching the Times site without using a bookmark? And checked that the latest instalment of your subscription has gone though? Might be worth trying to access the site on another device if you can? I can't think of anything else, and this is probably no help at all, so I hope one of the other posters can come up with something.

Thanks again, Loge. I don’t know how to clear cookies and in any case wouldn’t wish to interfere with a computer which is not my personal property. I’ll probably phone them again tomorrow.

This is just an observation and not a comment on others' motivations or morals.
I used to do the Listener but stopped a few years ago. I restarted after lockdown after seeing Tatters' link. I did do it 'for free' for a couple of weeks but then started buying the Saturday edition for the Listener and other Mind Games content. As a long-time Guardian and Independent/i reader I also enjoy the rest of the paper.
So, if my experience is anything to go by, Tatters has helped encourage sales.

Incidentally I remember that three or so years ago my Times subscription expired and yet my login worked for months afterwards 😉

Loge and Unclued, my apologies for not understanding what you were telling me! I have finally realised what to do and it has worked a treat. I logged in at the top of the Times page before scrolling down to the Crossword Club. Thanks very much!
