This is driving me up the wall. I have the lines from the work, finished the instruction from the extra words, but cannot fathom out 37 down.
I know the misprint, and that is all. My best guess is the unch is a "U", but cannot convince myself that it is correct. Is the correct letter "H"?

Gitto, I'll use the other thread for a biggish hint...

Thanks Malone. I should have thought about it a little more because I did exactly the same thing with 35d which caused me considerable problems. Once I realised my error there I should have looked again at 37d, but by that time I had become brain-dead trying to understand it.

Tatters
Is the gratitude of various people who derive great pleasure from the Listener while paying nothing for it really worth it? I am surprised that so many on this thread appear to be entirely comfortable with this form of fare-dodging. Obviously, like me, you have paid so I am surprised at your generosity in facilitating the free riders.

I also automatically recorded the correct answers to the misprints, it does pay to read the preamble! Thanks for the pointer loge, all done now.

chrishardie, you should pay as much as I do for access to The Listener puzzle. I've had The Times delivered to my home every weekend for more than 30 years - and I do so even now. tatters' generosity means that I can leave the paper alone for a few days before I read it, it's a precaution I'm taking due to the virus.
Your suggestion that I'm some kind of scrounger is unfounded - you should know that tatters pointed out right at the start that he was providing the puzzle so people could avoid similar risks (you might think we're being overcautious but that's really not for you to say).

Just so you know: I too get the paper delivered on Sat morning but love the chance to get to work on a Friday pm...

In response to the sanctimonious twit - I take considerable exception to the suggestion that I am "fare-dodging". I visit this thread to try to avoid spoilers on the other thread. I buy the Times every week, with the "I" and the Sunday papers for their crosswords. Why is chrishardie on this thread, or does he need to buy a Mirror? There are many people who cannot always get the Times during lockdown and Tatters kindly facilitated their access to it. To my memory, the contributors to this thread have done so for years, long before Tatters generosity allowed the Listener OCD fraternity to continue their obsession. I would be grateful if you heeded government advice and took to some form of exercise - particularly a very long walk.

Oh dear, with so much anger about at the moment can we not just take a deep breath and get some perspective. It's not major fraud, the Listener Police, I assume, have not come knocking on tatters' door? I enjoy this forum for the general air of support and gentle bonhomie that usually abounds. Sad as it may be, since March, the Listener has become one of the highlights of my week.
