Thanks for the tips about 8d my LOI. I hadn't come across it before, but having the crossers and knowing it was one of a rhyming pair made it an easily checked guess. Having googled it I couldn't help thinking how apposite it is for our troubled times!

Interesting dichotomy in the postings this week -- I'm in the 'breezed through' camp as I found this so much easier than the last couple of weeks. Maybe sleep deprivation helps? (Got a new puppy.) That said, like Alzy, 22D flummoxed me for quite a while, and I still can't see (or should that be 'hear', given 'aspiration'?) the parsing for 20D. Can anyone help? (Or is it just that residents famously drop their aitches -- that seems too simple!)

Re 20d, per’aps it should not be historically but ‘istorically ... ;)

It went really smoothly at first and then I got stuck. FOI - 3d.Thanks, Brendan, for the hint for 8d, which makes it my COD. I have just, as I type, twigged to 10a and 4d, though not sure I understand the parsing of 10a. 3-letter synonym for doctor?

10a - if one "doctor's" or fixes the result of something, say an election, then one could be said to have ???? the election.

It was a nice bit of misdirection by the setter, putting "who" straight after "doctor":-)
