Hi Alzy,

Agree totally about 9d, a very well crafted clue.

I'm not certain of the parsing for 8d but hopefully I'll have a moment of inspiration.

I thought the definitions to 6d and 13d were a tad vague but I get them.

Not too difficult and all in all a fun puzzle.

Thanks to Everyman.

Stay safe:-)

Finished except for 16d..probably my denseness..but somehow I cannot get anywhere with the parsing. Drama? Is it a play?
(All done on my I-pad while watching the Ken Burns series on the Second World War on PBS.)

I can see at least 4 clues with a literary connection. And the usual rhyming pair!

Hi DSCutler,

Have you ever seen the American Civil War series by Ken Burns, it's fantastic. My favourite part is the reading of a letter by Sullivan Ballou to his wife while Ashokan Farewell plays in the background - very moving.

Yes, an easy and fun puzzle. 8d seems straightforward. It contains the three letter abbreviation for viscount. The last six letters are from the five letter word for ‘close both eyes‘, containing ‘earl’.

Hi Mathi,

Yes, thanks Mathi, I was making it difficult for myself by thinking only the V applied to "viscount" but, of course, it's three letters.

Fastest ever finish today. Lots of anagrams, decent fun. LOI 9d, could see the answer from the crossers just took a little while to parse the (five!) elements from the clue.

I once wrote a city themed series of clues which included one for 12ac... “city where the Spanish stoop in greeting”...
