That was an enjoyable puzzle although I was very slow on the uptake for the endgame. All done now but with two loose ends. Please can I have nudges for the parsing of clues 9d and 29a?

9d - the first two letters of a 3 letter word for decline in an abbreviation for an exam
27a - remove the last four letters from the name of a composer and replace them with an anagram of the first four letters of the clue

Many thanks loge, simplesimon and smellyharry. I am not into this particular sport so the significance of the numbers escaped me.

Finished ok yesterday - but without visiting all posts - presume the answer to the bogus clue is just a word without a clue - so has no significance to the theme - unless it signified your reaction to the whole thing (certainly not mine)....Is this a new setter?....

This is the first Listener that I have been able to complete without any recourse to this Forum - clear clues and a nice, accessible, endgame. I found it thoroughly enjoyable. Went for a walk on Wells-next-the-sea beach to celebrate and test my eyes as car park has now re-opened.

I suspect that others will have found it too easy but my thanks to the setter.

williamseal - Never been a proponent of 'too easy' as long as the clues take some thinking about and the end game is satisfactory. They don't all need to be 'trying'. Have always been a fan of 'draw them in' rather than 'keep them out'... but must admit a bit annoyed that you could stroll around Wells-next the-sea while I being isolated on the London/Essex border have less options....
