Another really enjoyable Everyman. I was stumped for several hours on the final four or five clues which I much prefer compared to a half-hour rush job. 16d has so much going on!

Likewise 26a, I initially thought "nastily" was an anagram indicator and went looking for the spelling with a "y", then I realised it was "i" and the answer was literally staring me in the face. Clever, that.

I agree that this was difficult, but I did know the Brando reference!

Anyway, can't get the Spoonerism: have s?n?a? From what's been said, I assume the last letter is t, and understand about reversing first and last. So even guessing what the metal is, I don't know what the horn is.

22a: I have ?o?t?ire

27a: I have ?d?as?s

Thanks.

Last letter in Spooner clue isn't T. Have you noticed something about the puzzle overall?

22 your letters are right. Famous French/Swiss writer. You'll have heard of the Italian physicist.

27 your letters don't look right - too many of them for one thing!

....at the time, "scientist" would probably have been used instead of "physicist".

Yep, that's right for 27. Think of someone speaking for the first 5 letters.

The Spoonerism is poor - I don't like them anyway - and the definition is quite loose.

As I said earlier in a different context, if you want a big push, look at post 18 on this thread.

OK. Got 27.

I hate spoonerisms! Have got it now. Spelling of answer doesn't quite fit with definition.

Anyway, I can relax now.

Thanks chaise
