Thanks Tatters. Got all those now. Never heard of that spice.
Glad to sort out where I was going wrong with 20a!

I've bitten my tongue until now but some of the comments re this and the recent Harribobs EV puzzle are, to me, ridiculous. In particular, I see nothing ambiguous about the preamble here; for the second grid it clearly states answers not entries from the first grid.
I can understand there being "problems" arising from transcribing errors but that's certainly not the fault of the setter. I am in full agreement with an earlier poster (apologies for forgetting your moniker) that the indication of the 4th letter made things a lot easier than had it not been "given" and few logical deductions were required to arrive at the first destination then consequently the second. Thanks again Harribobs, from one very satisfied "customer".

I do not appreciate you taking this opportunity to dismiss my comments on the recent EV as 'ridiculous', ginge.

I took great care to address my concerns in a logical way and at some length on the other thread - that would have been the right place to present any counter argument, not here (where I've been more than generous by not saying what I think of this puzzle).

For the very few of you who are trying to make a masterpiece of this puzzle - you should at least take on board the criticisms of the majority of posters who have not viewed it as such.

Hi drxx, I stated some and did not specifically refer to any comments on the EV puzzle and I can't recall those made by yourself. Constructive criticism I have no problem with and if yours were in this vain then neither would the setter.

Hi again drxx, I wouldn't equate my comment of being "very satisfied" as equivalent to suggesting the puzzle was a masterpiece!

You don't appear to be saying much at all, ginge.

For completeness, can anyone provide a hint on the parsing of 30d? Not a necessary solve to progress to the endgame, but it's really bugging me as the only unsolved clue in my initial grid!

Hi,
It's SI(O)N, where Sion is a alternative term for fortress Hill of Jerusalem (according to my online dictionary)
